Chiang Mai,
Tailandas
@ This was the closest city i could find but i'm refering to a place called Pai (Life. To enrich my soul wiht other cultures) 2004-10-04
I stopped at Pai brifly on my travels around Thai land.
I fell so in love with the place i decided to return after visiting Laos.
i stayed for a while which turned into six wks!!
Pai is a village on a plataue which i think is about meters above sea level.
It sits on the river Pai which is the setting for some beautiful scenery.
I stayed in the Moonlight guesthouse for the six wks i was there and became friends with the Thai owner Zac.
The only way i could describe zac is as a beach boy Odd Job(the villain from james bond).
The accomadation was made up of small bamboo huts on stilts with comunal showers which if you don't need al your creature comforts is perfect in the climate up there.
While in changmai which is about a four hour drive dow the mountains it was roasting.
Up in Pai you would wake to this lovely mist covering the platuae and it would be cool enough for a long sleeve top.
By mid day the mist is gone leaving you with crystal clear sunshine.
It's deffinately a place to go and CHILL out.
If your lookin for hustle and bustle this is not the place.
If your lookin for hot springs which you can bath in (amasing cure for a saw ass if you've been off exploring on one of there notorious mopeds!).
These are great in the evenings wiht candels floating around and fools gold washing down the stream.
Then you have the waterfalls if you need to cool off. A great place to chill.
On the road/track up to the falls you pass a hill tribe village and sometimes may meet some of the locals who are absolutely wicked...
Theres some reat bars in the main village Be Bops being my favourite.
It's a blues rock bar with live music everynight and visitors who pass the skill test can play with the resident musicians.
You get some real surprises there wiht some of the musicians passing through.
The six weeks i stayed there were some of the most relaxing times of my trips round Asia.
i can't wait to return.
